Oftentimes, we focus on past life experiences or are anxious about the future; therefore, I use a combination approach that includes mindfulness (being present) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (thoughts influence behaviors).
I'm Ayana Lewis and I am a licensed clinical therapist in Georgia and Texas. I work well with those wanting to learn skills to better manage Anxiety and/or Depression. I also help many navigate their relationships with others while working on their own self-concept (how they see themselves and the world around them). I work well with clients that are experiencing low self-esteem and self-worth. I help clients recognize their value and how they are presenting to the world around them. Additionally, I assist those attempting to navigate life transitions including relationships, work, or family matters.

My counseling style integrates elements of CBT (how automatic thoughts and beliefs affect our behaviors and limit our choices), Motivational Interviewing (how our motivations and core values affect our readiness for change), positive psychology (enhancing strengths and building resilience), and mindfulness training (focusing on the present with acceptance).
We all know that life is busy, stressful, and difficult to keep in balance, but when things become overwhelming or out of sync, the decision to seek counseling or coaching is a gutsy first step to getting back on track. I believe we owe it to ourselves and our loved ones to pay attention to our mind-body health, and I take a non-judgmental and collaborative approach to help identify what may be holding you back from a rewarding and fulfilling life. Together we can explore techniques to improve coping and communication and help you move forward with clarity and purpose.

Are you seeking a therapeutic approach that both relaxes the body and clears the mind?A holistic approach can not only address symptoms but can also empower individuals to navigate their lives with a renewed sense of resilience and self-assurance. Creating a whole body balance offers significant relief, manages acute pain, and quiets the persistent negative self-talk that can exacerbate these conditions.

If you are interested in a refreshing approach to mindfulness, ACT, CBT, or therapy in general, then please reach out.
My approach to counseling assumes that everyone suffers in some way or another, and that our lives are in a constant state of flux. Everything changes on its own at some point, but we can learn to steer change in a way that benefits us and those around us by better understanding how we respond to suffering. When we are able to be aware and accepting of our own suffering, we become less reactive, less defensive, and we can begin to act in ways that are in alignment with our deeper values instead of clinging on to fleeting pleasures or avoiding discomfort. This shift allows us to act purposefully, turning obstacles into opportunities

“Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work for you doesn’t mean you can, should, or need to do it alone.” -Lisa Olivera. Do you find yourself constantly worrying, stressed, or like you are trapped, and you cannot seem to escape? Do you sometimes feel like no one understands you? You do not have to struggle in silence. I am pleased that you have taken the first step in addressing your concerns. In my practice, I provide a safe and non-judgemental space for you to be able to share whatever is on your mind and where we can explore your concerns together. Let’s sit down and talk!

My work with my clients is collaborative and solution-focused, utilizing narrative therapy and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
It has been my privilege to help people of all ages and backgrounds live their preferred story - to feel, think, and experience life the way they want. You’ve already started seeking it out. I truly believe it is the well part of someone that seeks and shows up to therapy, that knows and wants something better. Whether you are a young person, a parent, or simply a fellow human being, you can grow, learn, change & heal. It is all possible. And I see therapy not just as a way to decrease what you aren’t wanting but also a chance to increase what you’d like to experience in yourself, your life, & your family.

*Currently accepting new clients* Lots of people know that they need to make a shift or change in their lives but need a warm, supportive therapist and a chance to lean into the difficult areas of their lives. I’m an especially good fit for folks who appreciate the use of humor and lightheartedness in the work, but also want to move deeper and connect with themselves and their emotions in new ways, instead of always having to compartmentalize or “tough it out” with their emotions. My areas of clinical focus include therapy for men and mindfulness practices, but I also work well with lots of different people.

We will work together to begin change by utilizing acceptance/mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, meditation, and other holistic approaches to the healing process.
"The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking." - Albert Einstein I feel honored to have the privilege to be part of people's decision to improve their lives and create new beginnings. Utilizing individual, family, and couples psychotherapy I help people uncover patterns that may be holding them back. Together we work towards implementing strategies to find balance, confidence, and joy. My therapeutic approach includes the building of insight, cognitive and/or behavioral strategies, and the healing experience of a collaborative and compassionate relationship.

I work with high achieving, highly driven, people who would like to deepen their experience of connection in life; both to themselves and others. No matter how our lives appear on the outside, many of us feel emotionally lonely and emotionally unsatisfied. I believe that through understanding and awareness, we can move towards becoming our true selves and experience life more deeply. We can learn to connect more fully with ourselves and others and transform our lives.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual.
