I am so happy to announce that it is my first week of classes at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing! I will be obtaining my masters degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner for the next three years. I am excited to start this journey of advancing my nursing degree and can't wait to make a change in my future patients lives.

After completing the nurse residency program this November at NYU Langone, Kristen Conway and I were able to present our project to fellow nurse residents. Our project consisted of keeping our pediatric patients safe by minimizing unnecessary blood loss with laboratory testing. Therefore, we would educated the interdisplinary team on NYU policy of wasting 2x the dead space, using microbullets Iike pediatric culture bottles, and having a discussion with the team about ordering labs over a period of time. Studies have shown that by just emphasizing a discussion about the clinical indication of blood tests during daily morning rounds, the amount of testing dropped by over 37% with no negative effects of patient outcomes. After presenting this project, I am proud to announce that I was promoted from staff nurse to senior staff nurse on KP8 at Hassenfeld Children Hospital!

I am almost at my one year mark of being a nurse at the Hassenfeld Children's Hosptial at NYU Langone! During my first year, I have had the honor of receiving a Daisy award! A daisy award is given to extraordinary nurses for their compassionate contributions they make every day going above and beyond for their patients. Thank you to my patient and their family for nomating me for this very special award. I will wear my pin proudly at work everyday!

Over this past weekend, I had the privelage of graduating magna cum laude honors from the Decker School of Nursing at Binghamton University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing as a first generation student. These past 4 years have been the most rewarding yet challenging years of my life. I am grateful for my parents, brother, mentors, professors, etc. for helping me get to where I am today. I also was inducted to the Zeta Iota Chapter for Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society this past weekend. I am really excited to be a nurse and hopefully pursue my dream of being a pediatric RN in NYC. Next up, NCLEX and soon to be………….Gabriella DiMuro, BSN, RN

On Thursday, I was able to present a research study that I am apart of about postpartum smoking cessation at the Eastern Nursing Research Society (ENRS). I have been apart of this research since my sophomore year and it was an honor to listen to other nurses talk about their research studies. I am happy that I was able to present my senior year at ENRS in Providence, Rhode Island. This nursing research conference was a great experience for me because I was one of five scholarship recipients for the 34th annual ENRS conference!

Over the past week, I completed nine weeks of my student nurse externship at NYU Langone Hospital on a pediatric acute unit in Hassenfield Children’s Hosptial (KP8). I was able to use the skills I learned during my clinicals at Binghamton University during this summer. I also learned many new skills from all the nurses on KP8. My nurse preceptors gave me more confidence in my ability to become a registered nurse. I now call these preceptors my friends and I thank them for the beautiful cookie cake and life lessons that they gave to me! I will miss the family that was made on KP8 and this amazing student nurse externship. Thank you NYU Langone Health, especially Cathy M Barach and Diana Okoronkwo for this opportunity. My experience this summer was amazing and I hope to one day become a pediatric RN.

I am excited to announce that I have accepted a position as a Student Nurse Extern at NYU Langone Health in the Pediatric Acute Unit. I am very grateful for this opportunity to further my clinical skills and education alongside some of the most professional healthcare workers. I am ready to learn this summer about what it takes to be a registered nurse. Thank you to the recruitment team, especially Cathy M Barach and Diana Okoronkwo for your continued support throughout this application and interview process. I look forward to connecting with patients and health care professionals at NYU Langone this summer!

I am so happy to be apart of the new Decker School of Nursing in Johnson City. Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard during the COVID-19 pandemic to allow us nursing students to learn in this beautiful new simulation lab! I am beyond grateful to study nursing during this hardship, which we are all currently facing.

Thank you to the Decker School of Nursing at Binghamton University for giving me the opportunity to have my donor kit sponsored. Due to many of the expenses that nursing students have to pay, this was a tremendous help for not only me, but my family as well. I am forever grateful to have my donor kit sponsored by someone who is encouraging me to become the best nurse I can be!
