Asbury University Shaw School of Sciences

POSITION: Full-time faculty position beginning Fall 2024

SHAW SCHOOL OF SCIENCES INFORMATION: Asbury University announces a full-time faculty position in the Adventure & Education Leadership program in the Department of Science & Health to begin in August 2024. The Department of Science & Health includes programs in biology, chemistry, exercise science, and equine studies/science and Adventure and Education Leadership. Many Asbury students go on to graduate programs or professional school. Students receive personal attention in both introductory and upper division classes. The curriculum includes opportunities for majors to assume leadership roles in the Kentucky Outdoor Institute. All of our students participate in a leadership experience, some at Asbury and others at centers around central Kentucky.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach various undergraduate courses and laboratories. These may include courses such as experiential education, adventure skills I & II, wilderness first responder, outdoor program design, outdoor Christian Leadership, along with other courses as needed. Other responsibilities include supporting the Kentucky Outdoor Institute throughout the year. Participate in campus, university, and community service activities and professional organizations.

ACADEMIC RANK: Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.

QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a masters degree in adventure leadership, outdoor recreation or a closely related field required. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered Christian environment is required. Prior college-level teaching experience in both classroom and equine farm environments preferred.

COMPENSATION: Compensation is competitive and dependent upon education and experience. Benefits include retirement (TIAA/CREF) and insurance plans.
