Description Of Work
The College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources ( CASNR ) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln prepares today’s students for tomorrow’s greatest local, state, and global challenges around food, energy, water, and societal systems. As an Academic Advisor, you will:
- Provide high quality academic advising and student success coaching regarding coursework, degree program completion, and professional career opportunities for students enrolled in college-level interdisciplinary undergraduate degree programs offered by the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
- Maintain data on enrollment and retention, develop retention strategies.
- Assist students with referrals to appropriate campus and non-campus offices for academic and non-academic issues.
- Perform additional duties including active recruitment of new and prospective students, career coaching, New Student Enrollment advising, coordinate and teach a zero-credit student success seminar, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, student affairs, counseling, agricultural or environmental sciences, natural resources, or a related field; plus two (2) years of experience in student development, advising, or recruitment. Will consider a Master’s degree in a related field in lieu of experience.
- Demonstrated experience advising diverse student backgrounds in order to apply inclusive advising strategies for all students.
- Ability to learn and stay current of complex academic requirements, policies and procedures.
- Strong interpersonal and written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organization, time management, and computer skills.
- Ability to work as an effective team member.
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
- Master’s degree in education, student affairs, counseling, agricultural or environmental sciences, natural resources, or a related field.
- Experience with 1:1 student interaction/advising.
- Word processing, databases and/or presentation skills.
- Demonstrated advising experience using student information systems and technology platforms.
