Today was an amazing day for #BuckeyePride, The Ohio State University and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. We celebrated Pride Month with the annual Pride Brunch to celebrate diversity and inclusion at OSU and OSUWMC. I want to thank our fearless leaders, Joshua Culbertson, LPCC and Natalie Hurst for their leadership both for Buckeye Pride and with this endeavor. The planning committee of Steph Bendinelli, Steph Stump, Laura Robertson-Boyd, MPA, Alicia Parrish, Karey Preston, Em Reincheld and anyone I may have forgotten for all of their hard work and dedication to making this event possible. I also want to thank Sacarlet and Gay, the OSU Center for Belonging and the OSU Alumni House for their collaboration that helped make this event a reality Last, but certainly not least, I want to thank all of our program participants who brought us by their unique stories and diversity to this event to celebrate the LGBTQ community. Stonewall Columbus Director Densil Porteous gave an amazing keynote address addressing the need for our community to live out loud, the theme for this year’s celebration. My dear friend and local musician Kelly Vaughn shared her incredible music and song writing talents with us. And last, but most certainly not least, was an amazing panel discussion which I was privileged to moderate. Our panel participants, Jessica Pfister, Dr. Andrew Keaster, Dwayne Steward and Ari Grubaugh, shared their personal stories and work they have done to ensure LGBTQ individuals have equitable and respectful health care and education. Thank you, all of you, for helping making this event possible. And thank you to all who attended in person or via Zoom. Without your support and the support of OSU and OSUWMC, this celebration would not be possible. Happy Pride Month!

Dr. Stephen Kolb is a leading expert in the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). In addition to seeing patients every week, his lab studies tissue samples collected from patients with ALS to try to better understand how genetic diseases are expressed in neurons. The hope is that researchers can determine why neurons are selectively vulnerable, which could lead to clues about ways to address that weakness - and could lead to new treatments.
