About us

Whole Foods was founded in 1980 on the belief that where food comes from, and how it’s grown, matters. It meant creating quality standards, working with suppliers who achieve them, and sharing that information with our customers. And it radically changed the way people understood and shopped for food. The result has been the highest quality natural and organic products, an unmatched experience in more than 500+ stores, with a passionate team of over 90,000 team members, 5 percent of our total net profits given back to our communities each year, and millions of customers who put their trust in us every day.

Founder & CEO at Nguyen Coffee Supply

I still can’t fully express the impact of yesterday’s meeting, when the CEO of Whole Foods Market Jason Buechel visited Nguyen Coffee Supply!! 😱 We have come such a long way in changing the narrative around robusta, and with it, changing the system. When I first started the company, I was faced with countless rejections and the deep stigma against robusta. Over the last 5+ years, we continued to put in the work to elevate robusta, challenge the status quo and deconstruct a whole system of perpetual inequity. Now with Whole Foods, known for their high quality standards, embracing our robusta, it shows the entire industry that change IS possible. Major S/O to the entire Nguyen Coffee Supply team, our partners, our stakeholders and our community for championing our mission. We have already changed the world, and there is still SO MUCH MORE to come. Onward!! 🙏✨🚀 #robusta #vietnamesecoffee #entrepreneurship

We were already incredibly proud to have Dole Food Company as a Sourced for Good supplier. Their commitment to supporting farmworkers, their families and the Costa Rican community by investing in health services and career advancement initiatives consistently aligns with our purpose of Nourishing People and the Planet. But their pineapple artistry just took our appreciation to #whole new heights. Which is your favorite? We're quite partial to the peacock 🦚. #InternationalPineappleDay #NourishPeople #ProudPartners

"I joined Whole Foods Market twice — once as a Social Media Intern in 2022 and most recently as a Social Media and Influencer Marketer since August. Whole Foods Market was always my comfort place to find specialty products and brands as a foodie (like my favorite pistachio milk and vegan croissants!). Beyond my customer experience with the store, my internship was the perfect introduction and boot camp to the business side of Whole Foods, where I got to translate business needs and learnings into my current role. I love how we integrate our culture and values into our storytelling on our organic social and influencer marketing channels. There’s also always something new in social media, so it’s a fun challenge to tie our brand into culturally relevant online conversations — like tying our viral Berry Chantilly Cake to an episode of The Bachelor on our TikTok. My role involves learning and growing daily as I tap into my creative and analytical brain with trend identification and content creation. I also love the collaborative nature of my role. I work with various stakeholders in my day-to-day from influencers, agency partners, and cross-functional team members who all help inform our content, partnerships and purpose!" -Michelle Cheung-Zheng, Social Media and Influencer Marketing Strategist #Marketing #NourishPeople #NourishWellbeing #TeamWFM

"I began working at Whole Foods Market almost four years ago in our Grocery Department, moving into various roles before working my way up to Grocery Team Leader. Through my journey, I developed a motivation to inspire and support others looking to grow at Whole Foods and found that opportunity in a Store Trainer position. It's been two months since I became a Store Trainer, and I can honestly attest that time flies when you’re having fun! I feel so useful with my position in the store, onboarding new Team Members and showing them what Whole Foods is passionate about. Showing a positive attitude and building respect with each person is essential to my role. I try to be open and available for my team so people know they can come to me for any assistance, from navigating tax forms to accessing training programs. I also love being hands-on with the teams when they need an extra hand due to callouts or labor constraints. Being in each department helps me connect with the new hires and our existing Team Members. Moving into this role has been very self-motivating. The learning opportunities and appreciation I receive from my teams and store leadership have made this a rewarding experience. I still have a long way to go, but I’m excited for this journey!" - Rosie Lopez, Store Trainer #Trainer #NourishPeople #NourishWellbeing #TeamWFM

*Content Notice: Pregnancy loss 💚💚💚   "I started as a contractor in January 2020 and converted to a full-time Team Member three months later. I’ve since grown into a Senior Recruiter, supporting almost every piece of the business at some point. I gravitated towards Whole Foods because of the people I knew working here and the constant sharing of how great the atmosphere was. When I got a call about a contract role, it was a no-brainer.   Working with different leaders and teams, I’ve always noticed how kind everyone is and how much joy people have working here. I’ve been lucky enough to work with so, so many great leaders (too many to mention here); these people keep me here, especially my Talent Acquisition organization.   The career growth, development, mentorship and care we receive are great, but the people I work with daily are stellar individuals. They saw my entire journey to fatherhood while at Whole Foods. I had unbelievable support from leaders Jeni Madsen and Mia Bryant-Leonard, but my team, they were the ones who got me through miscarriages, and they were the ones who — outside of my immediate family — I was so excited to tell when we were finally having a daughter. This journey is not one I’d ever wish on anybody, but having this group of people walk beside me during it and celebrate our new addition, that’s special. Seeing our CEO in the store and having him remember that my wife and I were expecting, that’s special. Watching my team play with our kids as we all become parents working together, it’s all special.   Becoming a father while working at Whole Foods fills me with gratitude. I work for an organization filled with so many caring humans. I can’t help but say 'thank you' to my team for always being there, my leadership for always supporting me, and all the people along the way who celebrated our journey into being a family.   - Jordan Zehr, Senior Recruiter #Recruiting #NourishPeople #NourishWellbeing #TeamWFM

“I vividly remember receiving the call from Whole Foods Market to interview for an open Assistant Category Merchant role, and my happiness skyrocketed. That call led to the start of my Whole Foods journey in 2021, covering a wide range of products, from packaged coffee and tea to ambient bread to frozen favorites. I was later promoted to Category Merchant and continue to enjoy learning new things about the products that fill our aisles. In January, I had the opportunity to go to South Korea and visit one of our suppliers; it was a unique experience on all levels. Not only did we go to see their facilities, but we also had the opportunity to travel by boat to learn more about the seaweed they harvest. Understanding how they plant, grow and place it due to the water flow was an enlightening, once-in-a-lifetime experience. As a Merchant, I work to see my partners thrive in our stores. Meeting the people behind the brands and learning more about their culture and sustainability practices gives me an extra layer of connection to my role. Being part of a company that allows me to make that connection, grow and contribute to our mission of nourishing people and the planet fills me with pride.” - Mauricio Arata, Category Merchant #CategoryMerchant #NourishPeople #NourishWellbeing #TeamWFM

"I started at Whole Foods Market in 2018 as a Customer Service Team Member in Tampa, FL. I was still in my undergraduate program, and during the summer, I would pick up shifts in many departments — but I found my place in the Meat department. Those few shifts turned into my every day! The Meat department challenged me to learn new things constantly, and I discovered ways to advance my product knowledge while also taking home new things to grow my cooking abilities. In 2022, I moved to Chicago as a Team Trainer to pass on the knowledge I learned in the last few years to more Team Members. Soon after, an apprentice position opened, and to challenge myself further, I decided to apply for it. I have always wanted to push myself to try new things, and this was the best opportunity for me to do so. I have been very lucky across the few stores I have been in to learn from many amazing Butchers who enlightened me with their practices, each sharing a unique perspective on the wide variety of products we carry. As I learned to cut meat, I would buy the products and try new recipes with all different kinds of cuts. I figured I could not be a Butcher without knowing how to make a good steak, and now I make one of the best. Being a Butcher has challenged me to step outside of my professional and personal comfort zone and to grow as an individual. I am now training our next Apprentice, sharing the same knowledge and opportunities I gained. If I have learned anything throughout my time as an Apprentice and a Butcher, it’s that anyone can do it. My philanthropy, to always challenge societal norms, pushed me to be a Butcher. I always wanted to act as a role model for women in non-traditional spaces, and this role has given me many opportunities to show young girls that they can do anything they set their minds to. I have had many sweet moments with parents and their young children saying, 'Look, it’s a lady Butcher!'. Those moments remind me that I chose the right path." - Scarlett Garee, (The Lady) Butcher 👊 #Apprenticeship #ButcherApprenticeship #NourishPurpose #NourishGrowth #TeamWFM
