On this #WorldRefugeeDay, we’re proud to spotlight the Western Union Foundation’s partnership with Upwardly Global, a leading organization supporting refugees and immigrants with workforce inclusion so they can restart their careers and thrive in their new communities. One of their program participants is Vanessa, who restarted her medical career in the U.S. after fleeing Venezuela. Her life turned upside down in 2017 when political unrest forced Vanessa and her family to make the difficult decision to flee and seek asylum in the United States. Vanessa eventually found her way to Upwardly Global’s Career Coaching Program and qualified for an anesthesia technician position, allowing her family to move into their own place. In celebration of #Pride month, we interviewed Sebastian Rocca, Founder and CEO of Micro Rainbow, who shared more about the organization’s important work supporting LGBTQI asylum seekers in the UK. The Western Union Foundation has partnered with Micro Rainbow since 2021 and is proud to have helped more than 600 asylum seekers and refugees with inclusion and employability support in that time.
