In celebration of #Juneteenth, students at Allie’s Place Center for Culinary Education & Employment learned about shoebox lunches. These were created by Black travelers during racial segregation when they were often barred from dining at many establishments. Shoebox lunches symbolize resistance and resilience for Black Americans to this day. Students made rodeo turkey legs, yellow squash buttermilk biscuits, Nigerian-inspired Suya-spiced nuts, strawberry hand pies, and pickled greens using fresh kale from the Garden at Allie’s Place. #NYC #Bronx #JobDevelopment #JobPlacement #JobTraining #CulinaryEducation #CulinaryProgram #CulinaryTraining #Culinary #CulinaryArts #WorkforceDevelopment #Juneteenth
