Lucas Costantini Gagliardi, Trust & Safety Manager at Yubo, emphasized the importance of collaboration in combating terrorism and violent extremism online 👇 "Having a space to collaborate with other platforms is extremely beneficial to us and our industry as a whole. This is something GIFCT provides for us, not only as a place where we can share technical tools, but also as a place where we can share knowledge which I believe is one of their greatest benefits," Lucas shared his insights after participating in the Latin America regional workshop in Rio, organized by Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT) and Firjan. The dialogue focused on ongoing initiatives to address these challenges in the region and the implications for tech companies 💡 #Yubo #YuboPeople #TechForGood #CounterTerrorism

This week, GIFCT's Executive Director Naureen Chowdhury Fink had the privilege of giving the keynote speech at “Addressing the Prevailing Digital ‘Information Disorder’: Countering the Use of Internet by Terrorists and Violent Extremists,” a regional conference jointly organized by the Action against Terrorism Unit of the OSCE Secretariat’s Transnational Threats Department and the National Counter-Terrorism Council of Mongolia. The conference underscored the need to enhance #DigitalLiteracy, develop inclusive, #gender-sensitive policies with the participation of civil society, and center #HumanRights-based approaches while preventing and countering terrorism and violent extremism. We are deeply grateful to the organizers for facilitating this valuable dialogue among governmental, intergovernmental, industry, and civil society stakeholders who share our mission.

Last month, GIFCT worked with BSR to convene an expert discussion on practical human rights-based approaches to preventing terrorists and violent extremists from exploiting digital platforms. The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, ARTICLE 19, and BSR weighed in alongside GIFCT on the following questions: ▶ What does having a #humanrights policy mean in practice for companies? ▶ What does human rights due diligence in the context of #counterterrorism and violent extremism online mean in practice? ▶ How should human rights be factored into the definitions of terrorism and violent extremism, and the use of designation lists? Here's a summary of the panel, including links to further resources: https://lnkd.in/gGMSg-Td

GIFCT had the pleasure of hosting with Firjan a Latin America regional workshop in Rio yesterday, bringing together diverse participants including tech, industry bodies, local #counterterrorism and counter-violent extremist experts, and United Nations and government representatives to explore the intersections of technology and counterterrorism. The dialogue focused on ongoing initiatives to combat terrorism and violent extremism online in Latin America, and the implications for #tech companies, including GIFCT members. "Having a space to collaborate with other platforms is extremely beneficial to us and our industry as a whole. This is something GIFCT provides for us, not only as a place where we can share technical tools, but also as a place where we can share knowledge which I believe is one of their greatest benefits, " said Lucas Gagliardi of Yubo, a GIFCT member company.
