Today, American President Lines is participating in the 12th Annual Maritime Industry Sail-In on Capitol Hill, along with over one hundred representatives and key stakeholders representing all facets of the maritime industry, including other U.S.-flag shipping companies, American maritime labor unions, and related maritime organizations. Our APL colleagues are meeting with our U.S. Senators, Representatives, and their staff to discuss the crucial programs and policies that directly affect the American maritime industry and our economic and national security.

Happy Presidents’ Day!    Did you know that APL ships did not always have Presidential nomenclature?    Our first ships in the 1800s had names such as the SS California and the SS Oregon. It wasn’t until 1923 that APL, then called the Dollar Steamship Company, acquired seven “502 President type” liners from the US Shipping Board. These vessels entered service as the Presidents Adams, Garfield, Harrison, Hayes, Monroe, Polk, and Van Buren, beginning a tradition we have carried forward today!    Want to test your APL knowledge?
