Almanac News recently shared coverage of Menlo Park’s new GIS Hub, a Geographic Information System that can create, analyze and manage geographical or spatial data. “GIS has this preconceived notion of it being a map, but it’s really more of a spatial intelligence tool that allows us to make better decisions based on data,” said Enterprise Application Administrator Whit Loy. “People are thinking, ‘how can I use this public data of what’s around me to help make better decisions in our daily lives? How are my kids going to bike to school? What’s the safest route for them?,’ etcetera.” The GIS Hub supports City operations and includes status updates on capital improvement projects, information on development projects, water service and more. “Anyone with an internet connection can access the data,” said GIS analyst Patrick Palmer, “If we have something online and you’re interested in it, go for it. "The city’s Climate Action Plan establishes a target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 in order to limit the harmful impacts of climate change, such as sea level rise and high heat, and to support a healthy community," said Rachael Londer, Menlo Park’s sustainability manager, in an email to this news organization. He is excited about the positive impact that the Belle Haven Community Campus will bring. He will be working on developing programs, activities, camps and more to enrich the lives of the Belle Haven neighborhood. As excitement grows for the Belle Haven Community Campus Grand Opening May 18, our amazing Belle Haven Community Campus staff feature series continues with Raul Ponce! Raul Ponce is the Program Assistant for the Belle Haven Youth Center located in the Belle Haven Community Campus. He has been working for the City of Menlo Park for six years and has worked with the Senior Center, community events and the after school program. Raul is excited to be in a building where all of the LCS programs can come together under one roof. He says this will be a great opportunity for sharing ideas and coming together to create awesome activities, programs and resources for the community. Raul grew up in Menlo Park and also attended Beechwood School with his four siblings. He has an identical twin brother so you may see double versions of Raul walking around the new campus. In his spare time, Raul enjoys watching sports including Nascar. Mayra recently reached her five-year mark with the City and is excited about the new after school space for the children in the community. She is excited about the new connections she will make and the life-enriching programs the community campus will bring to the Belle Haven community. Juan grew up in Belle Haven and began working for the Library in 1999. 🤝 Juan is looking forward to showing off the new Belle Haven Community Campus to the community and continuing to provide a high standard of service alongside his LCS colleagues. Calling all creative problem solvers interested in facilitating safe and efficient transportation in #MenloPark! The City is seeking an Assistant Public Works Director of Transportation to promote the safe movement of people and goods throughout the city by maintaining and enhancing a functional and efficient transportation network. Projects on the horizon for the Assistant Director include driving strategic quick-build projects and large infrastructure changes like a pedestrian/bicycle undercrossing at Caltrain. The Assistant Public Works Director of Transportation will support the City’s Public Works team and report to the Public Works Director, coordinating division service for large and complex transportation projects, organizing safety education and neighborhood traffic calming programs, and responding to emergency situations such as traffic signal outages, traffic safety emergencies and natural disasters.
