Western Massachusetts has impressive infrastructure, and our 2024 Summer Interns are experiencing what it is like to work and live within this unique region. District 1 Interns have the unique opportunity to work on exciting infrastructure projects alongside experienced engineering professionals, while experiencing all that life in the Berkshires has to offer. Interns and staff enjoyed a District Day Event with the Bridge Inspection team to witness the bridge maintenance process. The event also featured a visit from the MassDOT Aeronautics Drone Operations program, which demonstrated the use of drones to collect and analyze data to help safeguard roads, bridges, rail lines, and waterways. The day highlighted the collaborative efforts to embrace and leverage all technology for progress. #Event #Berkshires #WesternMA #Engineers #MovingForward #Collegerecruitment #MassDOTCareers #Rural #Drones #Innovation

This week, Governor Healey announced a new tourism campaign called “Made Possible” to showcase Massachusetts as a dynamic travel destination for visitors across the globe and the best place to live, raise a family, and build a business. The campaign builds off of the administration’s “Massachusetts For Us All" campaign, which ran in the Summer of 2023, as well as proposed investments in arts, culture and tourism in the Mass Leads Act. 🙌 Congratulations to the Massachusetts Department of Correction and its partners on the launch of MCI-Framingham’s new P.E.A.C.E (Progressing Every Day and Changing in Every Way) Program. ☮️ This innovative emerging adult program, located at the DOC’s only correctional facility for incarcerated women, offers dedicated community-oriented space that encourages self-sufficiency, enhances practical life skills, fosters the development of parenting skills, and strengthens bonds between incarcerated mothers and their children. 🚀 The P.E.A.C.E. Program empowers participants to strengthen skills necessary for success within the program and in the community to which they will return. Thank you to our partners at UTEC and Roca, Inc. for their continued support. 🎤 Hear what Secretary Reidy had to say last week at the new unit’s launch event:

The MassDOT Summer Internship Program has officially started! Last week we welcomed 117 Summer Interns representing over 26 schools and working across 7 different MassDOT office locations. Interns kicked off their summer with a tour of the Longfellow Bridge and a visit to the D6 Vent buildings. Interns had the opportunity to be 83 feet underground to tour Boston’s Central Artery MassDOT Vent Building #3. Did you know that the Boston tunnel system spans roughly 21 miles? We will be sharing multiple project site visits around the state that MassDOT Interns will be visiting during the summer! Our future is bright with amazing talent! Bridge fact: The Longfellow Bridge is a steel rib arch bridge spanning the Charles River to connect Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood with the Kendall Square area of Cambridge, Massachusetts. MassDOT preservation and engineer teams worked diligently on the rehabilitation of this bridge which was originally built in 1906. #Interns #Massdotcareers #Careerdevelopment #Learning #Partnership #Transportation #Environment
