Demi Moore stars in new horror 'unlike anything you’ve seen' with gory full frontal nudity

The actress' new role has shocked audiences

Over her years-long career in Hollywood, Demi Moore has never been too shy about shocking audiences.

Her decision to pose nude for Vanity Fair whilst pregnant was particularly controversial at the time, but her latest career move may have taken the shock factor to a whole new level.

If the reviews for the film are anything to go by it's not for those with easily upset stomachs.

It's been branded 'grotesque', 'insane' and 'not for the faint of heart'.

One scene that is getting a lot of attention involves Moore studying her own naked body before going ahead with a life changing procedure.

The 61-year-old G.I. Jane star is in a new film called The Substance, which is proving to be a critically acclaimed body horror flick.

One viewer took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts on the film, saying: "#TheSubstance is one wild ride. More outrageous than you can ever imagine, with a director determined to blow your mind.

"You will never look at Demi Moore the same way again. It’s hard to believe this film actually exists. A disgusting and delicious triumph. #Cannes 2024."

Another person tweeted: "#TheSubstance is rife with metaphors about women in Hollywood and the consequences of self hatred.

"Covered in blood, ripped out teeth, peeled-off fingernails and the most grotesque prosthetics in recent memory, the movie is not for the faint of heart," they wrote.

A fellow fan gushed: "Cannes just got splattered. The Substance is the most bats**tf**kinginsane movie of the last 20 years. It is on such a freakish level that it’s impossible to believe it exists.

"Demi Moore goes there and @coraliefargeat has carved a contemporary horror unlike anything you’ve seen."

Other viewers claimed that the movie was 'for the sickos', while one critic described the film as 'equal parts Freaky Friday and The Fly'.

Moore's performance was described as 'demented', which in this context is a positive.

In the The Substance she plays a fading celebrity who takes a drug from the black market.

It's a cell-replicating substance which creates a younger version of herself - but only briefly.

Currently, the film has yet to be released for mainstream viewing outside the Cannes Film Festival, but it is set to be released by Mubi to the United Kingdom and Ireland later in the year.

The film was written by Coralie Fargeat, known for Revenge, and also stars Once Upon A Time’s Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid from The Day After Tomorrow.

The Substance is one of Moore's first leading movie roles for a few years.

After starring in films such as Indecent Proposal, Disclosure and Ghost throughout the 1990s, she turned her focus towards television roles and activism.
