Ed Sheeran left fans in hysterics after he failed to serenade eight cats which saw them dart away as soon as he started singing in Cat Cafe Mocha Lounge in Tokyo on Monday.

The singer, 32, took to Instagram to share the hilarious footage of him attempting to sing to the felines, who bolted out of the room as soon as he started performing.

Trying his luck for the second time round a decade later, Ed shared 10-year-old footage of him trying to serenade the animals previously, which had also failed.

He captioned his post: 'Trying to win over the same kitties that ran away from me in 2014, same results'.

While the cats started eating dinner, Ed said 'who wants to hear a song', while looking down at the felines.

The cat cafe he visited allows visitors to enjoy a coffee or a catch-up while cats roam the building.

Fans gushed to the comments in stitches of laughter with one joking he should have played the song perfect: 'They wanted to hear 'Purrfect' obviously'.

Others commented: 'THIS IS FUNNY, ED. I LOVE U. AND I LOVE CATS TOO.'

'They really don't look impressed. If i was a cat, I'd be jumping on him'.

'This is hilarious'.

Ed has been spending his spare time exploring Japan's delicacies during the start of his two-year long Mathematics tour.

The hitmaker performed two nights in Osaka and will be heading to the Tokyo Dome at the end of the week for his next show.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, the hitmaker shared a video of him trying all new foods while he gave his honest opinion.

He said: 'It's alright, I don't know if I'd eat it again.'

Ed added: 'Kuidaore (食い倒れ) means eat until you drop and that's exactly what I'm going to do tonight.'

He later added: 'I wasn't a fan of the octopus balls, but I wouldn't not have them again.'

Ed will remain in Asia through March, performing in Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and Mumbai.

The singer plans to fly home between each of his shows in Asia to be with his wife Cherry Seaborn and their two daughters – Lyra, three, and Jupiter, 21 months.

Calum Scott, 35, who is the opening act for Sheeran's tour, didn't see the fall from where he was seated.

'I was at the back of the stadium with the highest view and I didn't see it so, well styled mate,' he wrote on social media.

Calum told the Daily Star: 'He's coming and going back home from Asia to be able to see his kids every week.

'He's a really family and friends-driven kind of artist. That's unreal jet lag though. I don't know how he'll cope with it - a lot of melatonin!'

This summer he will crisscross the European continent with stops in Germany, Italy, Spain and eastern Europe.

In an interview last week, Calum said that the pair plan to try out new cuisines and play XBox together during their time on the road.

He told The Sun's Bizarre column: 'Ed came to see me before the first show. We just sat chatting about normal stuff.

'We will have a lot more time on the tour and he is a big foodie like me, so we are going to try and get out for dinner at some point,' he said.

Calum added: 'I’ve brought my Xbox too so we can shoot some bad guys on Call Of Duty.'
