Sun's out, studs out! Gen Z declare football boots this summer's hottest shoe ahead of the Euros as TikTok fashionistas complete their outfits with sports shoes

With the Euros around the corner, town centres in the UK will soon be awash with football shirts.

But while fans pack into pubs sporting jerseys worn by their favourite footballing legends, the shirts won't be the only piece of kit making its way from the pitch to the street - as Gen Z has declared football boots fashion's next hottest trend.

Unlike football kits, studded trainers typically only appear on the pitch, but that's all about to change because high fashion has taken on the studs as a key style piece this summer.

For instance, Prada released a pair of metallic silver 'Copa Pure' football boots in collaboration with Adidas for a steep £500, and they're sold out in most sizes.

Football fanatics might consider it sacrilege, but in the name of streetwear, fashion-forward thinkers have now taken to TikTok to style their football boots for everyday wear, from classic pairs to upcycled kitten heel versions.

Designer Ancuta Sarca made headlines last month after releasing a small limited-edition collection of reworked Nike football boots into slingback heels and knee highs.

The Romanian-born designer took to Instagram to share the designs and claimed to have made them for none other than pop sensation Rihanna.

She wrote: 'Some BTS of the custom pairs we made for @badgirlriri back in January. All shoes are remade from football boots.'

The designer, known for repurposing materials, quickly racked up over 20 thousand likes on her football-inspired environmentally friendly designs.

'Championing an environmentally-conscious approach to fashion, Ancuta Sarca's label offers a non-conformist yet feminine perspective on traditional sneakers,' the brand's website reads.

While the Rude Boy singer might have reserved Ancuta Sarca's designs, Gen Z has taken to TikTok to share how they've put their spin on the trend for an affordable price.

Content creator and fashion student Honey Rose Massey, from London took to TikTok to share a video of her styling Nike football boots.

The monochrome pair aren't what you'd expect to see on Jude Bellingham or Bukayo Saka while on the pitch, thanks to their heels.

In true Gen Z style, Honey paired the avant-garde shoes with a baggy pair of parachute trousers and a shirt.

Viewers lapped the outfit up, and one said: 'Now I am seeing the vision'. 'So cool omg,' another said. A third wrote: 'They're so sick', and so on.

She's not the only one; Ellie Rose Baker, from London, who has collected over 600 thousand likes on her TikTok feed thanks to her style, has also hopped on the trend.

'Wearing football boots all summer (but no playing or watching football please),' she wrote while revealing her studded trainers.

Ellie searched second-hand e-tailer Vinted for her pair of 'cute' vintage Adidas football boots.

Elsewhere, Sydney-based Joely Malcom, from Sydney, shared a TikTok of her putting together her Friday night outfit.

Her upcycled heeled Asics football boots were undoubtedly the star of her ensemble, which she teamed with a red kilt-style skirt and a colourful tank top.

Again, Joely received comments from viewers praising the shoes. One said: 'I need these shoes badly.' A second wrote: 'Where are the shoes from/what's the name of them? So nice!' A third added: 'Giving Sporty Spice.'

It comes after New Balance raised eyebrows with its latest shoe design that sees its classic trainer remodelled as a loafer.

Founded in Boston, the sportswear brand has garnered a massive audience with its reliable trainers, appealing to Boomers and Generation Z alike.

However, the brand's new creation, developed in partnership with Japanese fashion designer Junya Watanabe, has caused heads to turn - and not for the right reasons.

The esteemed designer is known to mastermind avant-garde designs, and his creations often cost upwards of £1,000.

Now, his trainer loafers have triggered a storm on social media, with viewers unable to wrap their heads around the 'grandad' shoes, not to mention the alleged £155 price tag.

While the shoes are not scheduled to go on sale later this year, photographs of the new design leaked online.

The trainers come in silver and grey and have the appearance of sports shoes while being shaped like loafers.

However, after photographs of the shoe surfaced online, viewers quickly voiced their concern over the design.

One said: 'This is what happens when the ultimate dad shoe manufacturer gets too confident and thinks they can just branch out to grandad shoes.'

A second joked : 'Thank you for making these for my 1983 feet.' A third wrote: 'Those are the ugliest trainers I have ever seen.'

Chiming in on the backlash, a fourth user took to the comment section and said: 'Never seen anything worse.'
