Race to get out of Labour's Britain: Super-rich 'already fleeing the country' to avoid being hammered by Keir Starmer's tax raids

The wealthy are already fleeing Britain over fears about Keir Starmer's tax raids, it was claimed today.

City lawyer Ayesha Vardag revealed a 'flood' of clients had already left ahead of what is expected to be a Labour landslide.

Ms Vardaq, whose firm specialises in high-profile divorce battles, said the wealthy were opting for destinations such as Dubai and Monaco rather than risk hikes in capital gains and inheritance tax.

It is the latest sign of anxiety about the prospect of a Labour government with potentially the largest majority in history.

Sir Keir has insisted that apart from closing specific tax loopholes, nothing in his manifesto requires additional tax rises for 'working people'.

But critics say his plans cannot be delivered without unleashing tax hikes yet to be declared to voters.

Ms Vardag told the Telegraph: 'People are flooding out of the UK. The axis of the world is shifting away from England. And it's been destroyed with this idea that you get votes by bashing the rich.'

She added: 'What's going to happen in a global world where you can live anywhere? People are going to grow their businesses and then move to Dubai or Monaco, selling their businesses where there is no capital gains tax.

'England is not so great that you want to give away half of your business when you can just move to another beautiful country. It's extraordinarily naive to think that everyone will stay.'

Experts have already been warning about the possibility of a 'brain drain' as the wealthy choose to relocate.

Miles Dean, head of international tax at consultants Andersen, told the Financial Times last month: 'People are leaving because of Labour. Tax is clearly the key weapon they have and they're going to use it to level down.'

Ex-business secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg told the Mail on Sunday last month: 'If Sir Keir gets in, he will repeat the mistakes of the 1970s Labour government and provoke a brain drain of wealthy people our economy needs.'
