AI boss is arrested after cops find her four-year-old son dead in her suitcase in India

The CEO of an AI company has been arrested after cops in India found her four-year-old son dead in her suitcase. 

Suchana Seth, who heads The Mindful AI Lab in India's tech hub of Bengaluru, was arrested by police in the state of Karnataka on Monday.

The 39-year-old mother was detained when she was returning from neighbouring state Goa by taxi and arrested after the body was found in her luggage.

Seth had checked into a hotel with her son in Goa on Saturday but the boy was not with her when she checked out on Monday night, Goa police inspector Paresh Naik said. 

He added that hotel cleaning staff found blood stains in her room after she checked out and called the police. 

Seth was allegedly en route to Bengaluru for work, but insisted that she had to travel by taxi only, the Sun reports. 

She tried to explained the blood stains in her room by saying they were due to her period. Seth also claimed that her son was staying with her friend in South Goa.

She even gave police an address, but as soon as officers found out that the address was fake, they contacted her taxi driver and asked him to take Seth to the nearest police station, Naik said.

'When her luggage was opened, the child's dead body was found,' North Goa Superintendent of Police Nidhin Valsan told reporters.

Goa police brought Seth back to the state, Valsan said, adding that her husband, Venkat Raman, was in Indonesia and had been asked to come to India.

A local court remanded her to six days in police custody, news agency ANI reported.

Seth's motive for the shocking crime is unknown, but police said they suspect her estranged relationship with her husband - they are reportedly going through a divorce - could be a possible reason, according to broadcaster NDTV. 

On her Linkedin page, Seth states that she was a fellow at Harvard University's Berkman Klein Centre and that she has over 12 years of experience in data science.

She also said she was a mentor for data science teams and scaled machine learning solutions at start-ups and research labs.
