About STAPLES Center
One of the world's greatest arenas opened in 1999 and immediately won recognition as a two-time winner of the PollStar-CIC Arena of the Year award. It opened on October 17, 1999, with a concert by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, but has gained fame as the home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers of the NBA, the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA, the Los Angeles Kings of the NHL, the Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League, the Pac-10 Conference Men's Basketball Tournament, the site of the annual WTA Championships and other events.

It offers every conceivable amenity for spectators and competitors alike and has been a favorite for major events including the 2000 Democratic National Convention, the 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2006 Grammy Awards, the 2002 NHL All-Star Game, as well as the 2004 NBA All-Star Game. It was the proposed venue for gymnastics for the Los Angeles bid for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Located next to the Los Angeles Convention Center complex, STAPLES Center was privately financed at a cost of $375 million and covers more than 950,000 square feet of space. Architects NBBJ Sports and Entertainment created a state-of-the-art facility which incorporates 2,500 tons of structural steel, 73,000 cubic yards of concrete and 3.8 million feet of broadcast production cable. Although it's already a Los Angeles icon, it's only a part of a much larger development, known as L.A. Live, which Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) broke ground in September 2005. L.A. Live is designed to offer entertainment, retail and residential programming in the downtown Los Angeles area.
