Dresser to shut oil field plant; operations to be consolidated. (Dresser Industries Inc. Ideco Div.)
BEAUMONT, Texas--The Ideco division of Dresser Industries, Dallas, will shut down its oil field equipment plant here, following the formation of IRI International Corp., a joint venture with Ingersoll-Rand Co., Woodcliff Lakes, N.J.
About 350 workers at the plant will lose their jobs when the 77-year-old manufacturing plant ceases operations within four to six months, according to David Thomas, Dresser industrial relations manager. The company's metalworking operations will be transferred to Pampa, Texas, where IRI International is headquartered.
"We will consolidate the operations here in Pampa. The equipment we use is pretty all-purpose, lathes, welding torches, so that it's really just a matter of capacity," said V. …
