Statement of Significance (as of designation - June 23, 1986):
Completed in 1887, this structure represents the highwater mark in the career of architect Elijah E. Myers (1832-1909), often described "the greatest capitol-builder of the Gilded Age." It is one of the largest capitol structures in the country and reflects the popularity of the national capitol in Washington, DC, as the prototype for state capitol buildings in the post-Civil War era.

Condition:
The building was completely restored in 1995. Since the restoration, SPB staff has worked diligently to maintain the historical integrity of the building with highly efficient and ongoing maintenance efforts.

No changes since the last reporting period.
