Have you received an unexpected email or text reporting to be from your bank, but which just doesn't look right? HM Revenue & Customs has warned that it received more than 130,000 reports about tax scams in the 12 months to September 2023, of which 58,000 were offering fake tax rebates. With scamming becoming more sophisticated and harder to spot, #HMRC asks that customers report any suspicious communications to them: ➡️forward suspicious texts claiming to be from HMRC to 60599 ➡️forward emails to phishing@hmrc.gov.uk ➡️report tax scam phone calls to HMRC on GOV.UK In the 12 months to September 2023, HMRC responded to 60,000 reports of phone scams alone and got 25,000 malicious web pages taken down. https://lnkd.in/ecs77wgH #accountants #sussex

Before submitting a claim, you will need to consider if your activity is eligible for R&D tax reliefs, and penalties can be levied by HMRC if it disagrees with an R&D tax claim.
