Series Summary:
Kiddie comedy in the style of Bewitched and My Favorite Martian. In this one, an inept angel was dispatched to help a harried Chicago woman cope with her five adorable nieces and nephews, after their parents had died in a plane crash. Aunt Marion decided to accept a boarder, to help meet expenses, so Random moved in. The fact that he was an angel, with magical powers, was the kids' secret. Random could move people and places around with a twinkle, and he used his powers to teach the kids little lessons about growing up. Gladys was the black housekeeper.

Did You Know?
Some people have identified Out of the Blue as a spinoff series of Happy Days.
I disagree and maintain that it is a crossover series. Out of the Blue premiered on
September 9, 1979 (a Sunday) and the Happy Days episode (Chachi Sells His Soul) where
Random the Angel appeared aired on September 18, 1979 (a Tuesday where Happy Days aired on
during almost its' entire run). This would make it a crossover episode and not an actual
spinoff in my opinion. Robin Williams guest starred as Mork on the first episode of
Out of the Blue. The Happy Days episode was likely a promotional tool for Out of the Blue
to make the character more known.
I've verified the premiere date for Out of the Blue from Tim Brooks/Earle
Marsh's tv directory book. The date of the Happy Days episode was verified from the
1998 DuoCards Happy Days trading card set.
TV.com thinks
it is a spin-off series: "I have read all the rumors about this show. Some people say that it is
a spin-off of Happy Days, some people say it's a spin-off of Mork and Mindy, and some people even say it was just a
show on it's on that has crossovers with these two shows. I have found out that this is indeed, a spin-off of Happy Days. The
pilot episode which aired on Happy Days aired after the first episode of Out of the Blue because of pre-emption, but it
originally was supposed to serve as the pilot. This show lasted for seven episodes (eight counting the pilot on Happy Days).
Jimmy Brogan is now a producer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
