GOR

Admittedly, GOR is a scientifically implausible planet created at the heart of a series of Sci-Fi Fantasy novels written by John Norman from the mid-1960’s through nearly the present day.

GOR is scientifically implausible because it exists in a diametrically opposed orbit to our own Earth and is held in such a position to be undetectable using telescopes and close Earth orbit satellites.  This may be part of the reason it is also referred to as Counter-Earth. It is, of course, a fantasy world.  I doubt that anyone has really tried to prove its existence (or lack thereof).  It should be a simple matter of slightly altering the solar orbit of one of our deep space probes to pass through the an orbit opposing that of Earth at the appropriate time of the year.  Although, the cost would certainly prove to be wasteful.

However, GOR lives on in our imaginations as a simpler, if not more brutal, example of life before modern WMDs (Weapons of Mass Destruction) where nature and the elements had a greater impact on a persons survival than social media or PC (political correctness).

As the imaginative creation of a writer, GOR is not really that simple.  Its variation on regional societies grew larger as more in the series of books were released.  It tested the waters for other sci-fi fantasy concepts; many of which were more successful. Also, there are contrasts and comparisons with our own society spread throughout the GOR series; sometimes in the form of rambling paragraphs; other times in the course of events that take place as the story plays out.

I invite you to explore the world of GOR and perhaps some of what intrigues many of us about that harsh, unfair, sometimes cruel, sci-fi fantasy called GOR.
