After releasing a deplorable video of a man who apparently died by suicide in Japan, YouTuber Logan Paul has faced a heap of swift and rightfully angry backlash. Among the sea of outraged viewers, celebrities, and fans, clothing brand reps are also speaking out against the star. Maverick Apparel, a brand for juniors and children, recently put out a statement regarding the Logan backlash, condemning him for giving his clothing line a similar name ("Maverick by Logan Paul"). The Maverick Apparel brand believe shoppers are confusing their line with Logan's, resulting in a deep decline in sales.
The letter from the company states: “Maverick Apparel has noticed a rapid and significant decline in its sales, reputation, and goodwill of the Maverick Apparel brand as a direct result of your repulsive, abhorrent and mutton-headed conduct. In choosing to promulgate yourself and your maw-wallop across social media and champion yourself as an object of ridicule, hatred, and contempt, you have simultaneously infected the good name of Maverick Apparel.” It added: "He is tarnishing Maverick Apparel with his name, Logan Paul, which has become synonymous with racist, anti-Asian, and homophobic sentiments, and most recently, a belligerent insensitivity to suicide.”
Logan released two subsequent apology videos following his original clip, but many found them to be self-centered, disingenuous, and a sneaky attempt to make a profit. Several social media users are now calling for a boycott of his clothing line. Maverick Apparel says it has already suffered over $4 million in damages because of the name similarities, and if Logan doesn't "immediately stop using the Maverick trademark within seven days," the company will sue.
